iCloud voice recorder to markdown

Turn iCloud-synced recordings into markdown work files.

SpeechToDo watches a workspace folder and turns audio that lands there into markdown transcripts, summaries, decisions, and tasks you can review beside the original recording.

## Follow-ups

A practical folder workflow for voice recordings.

iCloud is useful because it can put recorded audio in a folder that is already visible on your Mac. SpeechToDo turns that folder into the review surface for reusable markdown artifacts.

1

Record audio

Capture a voice memo, call recap, or walking note with the iOS recorder or audio app you already trust.

2

Sync to a workspace

Save or move the `.m4a` or other audio file into an iCloud-backed workspace folder that is available locally on your Mac.

3

Review markdown

SpeechToDo writes transcript, summary, and action files back into the workspace for review and reuse.

Default iCloud workspace checklist

  • Create or choose one iCloud Drive folder for the SpeechToDo workspace.
  • Keep source recordings in an inbox/ or similarly clear folder so new audio is easy to review.
  • Export, share, or move voice recordings into that folder as files such as .m4a.
  • Keep the folder available locally on the Mac running the SpeechToDo watcher.
  • Review the generated markdown transcript, summary, decisions, and task files beside the source audio before moving them into your notes or task system.

What the output can look like.

The goal is not a raw transcript archive. The goal is a file you can correct, link, copy from, and keep with the original audio.

## Transcript
I think the iCloud workflow should be the first tutorial...

## Decisions
- Make folder ownership visible in onboarding.
- Keep the first workflow narrow and file-native.

## Tasks
- Publish the iCloud workflow page.
- Add a setup checklist to public docs.

What iCloud sync does, and what SpeechToDo does.

  • iCloud sync moves the recording between Apple devices and your Mac.
  • SpeechToDo watches the chosen local folder and writes markdown artifacts back into that workspace.
  • The source recording stays part of the workspace so the transcript and actions can be reviewed against it.
  • Cloud or hosted processing may still apply during beta transcription; review the local-first boundaries and privacy policy before relying on the workflow for sensitive recordings.

Designed for user-owned voice artifacts.

This workflow fits people who want synced folders and markdown files to be the durable record, not another transcript dashboard.

  • You already use iCloud Drive to move files between phone and Mac.
  • You want voice recordings converted into editable markdown artifacts.
  • You need summaries, decisions, and tasks beside the source audio.
  • You prefer reviewing files in your own workspace before acting on them.

Current beta boundaries.

SpeechToDo is early. This page describes the folder-based workflow the beta is built around, without claiming a finished mobile app or fully offline AI stack.

Use SpeechToDo when you want

  • A local workspace watched for new audio files.
  • Markdown transcript, summary, decision, and task outputs.
  • An iCloud-backed folder as one practical sync option, not a requirement.
  • Founder-led setup while the workflow is still beta.

Use another tool when you need

  • A native iPhone recorder shipped by SpeechToDo today.
  • A fully managed cloud library for every recording.
  • Team transcript dashboards and enterprise admin controls.
  • A fully offline AI pipeline before it is shipped and documented.
